Kids Crafts How to make a SPLAT bug!

Kids Crafts
How to make a SPLAT bug!

So it’s another wet day and your kids want to get crafty… again… but this time they want something sparkly and shiny to make their own.

So you need to come up with a great idea in a short space of time.. Well why not on this occasion use the  kids can be crafty tools. We;re  are here to help.

Today’s kids crafts solution is…. The SPLAT bug. This is a versatile wee creature that can be made into a picture, a fridge magnet or a Frisbee. Let your crafty kids choose J

To make the splat bug you will need the following items form your craft supply cupboard:

PVC Glue
Lots of glitter in lots of colours
Sparkly gems or confetti
Googley eyes
A baking tray (or glass plate)
And a paint brush

To make your Splat Bug:

Pour about 10ml’s of glue into the baking tray until you have a small puddle.
Take the paint brush and pull it through the glue to form a splat shape (or nay shape you like). Make sure the glue is evenly spread or it will take longer to dry.

Rainbow glitter effect

Once you’re happy with the shape grab the glitter and shake shake shake those colours over the Splat till it is fully covered.

Now take your googley eyes and place them on the splat.  Then place it in a warm place to dry, if the glue is not to thick this should only be an hour or so (but if it’s thicker leave it overnight).

Once the Splat Bug is dry get your crafty kids to add either a magnet to the back or frame it and name it .  Anything goes.

Have Fun

Linda

Arts and crafts for Kids - Giant Paper Roses

Arts and Crafts for kids

How to Make a Giant Paper Rose:

This one is spectacular and always a crowd pleaser, especially at weddings.  They make a stunning edition to the photo's. Kids love them to for mothers day, fathers day, birthdays.  What says I love you more.

To make these

You will need:

Flower wire - (or pipe cleaners if you don’t have this handy)

**Crepe paper – Colored (any color you fancy )

**Crepe paper – one sheet of green for leaves, calyx and stem

Floral tape – (green)

Scissors

Craft glue

Additional butterfly template and some gems

Stapler *

*(if like me you don’t have a steady hand you can staple the template on before cutting)

** (please note you can use tissue paper if you have no crepe paper but you need to be more delicate as it rips easily)

Assemble

  1. Enlarge and print template found in the Crafts Cupboard. Use the template to trace and cut five teardrop-shaped petals and 15 heart-shaped petals from double-sided crepe paper.
  2. To shape petals, cup in centre or heart shape ; wrap left and right top edges around a pencil to curl at edges outward to form ‘flower shape’
  3. Make a stem by wrapping three flower wires in paper to cover wires then wrap together with floral tape.
  4. Start building flowers by first placing teardrop petals around the stem and rotate with each one then secure with green floral tape. Next place heart shaped petals around the "bud" you have just created and secure with more floral tape.
  5. Trace and cut the calyx shape from green crepe paper to wrap around bottom of ‘stem’. Once you wrap calyx around bottom of rose glue in place.
  6. Wrap three more flower wires with floral tape.
  7. Then trace and cut out three leaf shapes from green crepe paper. Draw a strip of glue down the centre of each leaf, place the paper-covered wire down, and pinch the crepe paper together over the paper-covered wire "vein" to hide it.
  8. Attach the leaves to the stem by wrapping in floral tape round the stem.
  9. Wrap stem with several more strips of green crepe paper to cover floral tape; glue these in place.
  10. Voila…. a fantastic giant rose.
